A guide to understanding online care

Notebook / Chapter D

How can I find and check real care?

Name the health problem that brought you here. Then check the person who will assess it.

Where can a care conversation start?

Telehealth means sharing care by phone, video or an exchange online. You can also seek an in-person visit.

You can ask a doctor by phone, video or at a clinic to look into your health problem.

An online visit does not change the pharmacy rules that limit access to BPC-157.

Ask about the cause of your symptoms and other care options before making one substance the whole plan.

The national group for state medical boards recommends that doctors arrange any needed examination or test, or send you to someone able to provide it.

How do I check a doctor’s licence?

As of September 2026, guidance says doctors need a licence or other permission from whichever state you are in when the visit takes place.

Each state sets its own rules and exceptions. Ask whether the doctor is allowed to treat someone in your state.

Get the doctor’s full name and the state licence details. Check the state medical board’s record for a current licence and any action against the doctor.

The Federation of State Medical Boards links to each state board’s own website.

The licence record shows whether the doctor is allowed to practise. It cannot tell you the quality of the care they give.

What does a real online visit involve?

Prepare a short account of the problem, your medicines, past care and what you hope to learn.

Ask who reads the information, how to ask more questions and how to contact your treating clinician once the visit is over.

As of September 2026, the national group for state medical boards recommends that doctors avoid basing treatment only on ticked boxes on a website. It also advises against letting a patient pick a medicine from a website list without a proper health check.

This is advice to state boards, not a law that applies everywhere. Your state decides which rules apply where you live.

An online form can be part of a visit if the person treating you can ask more questions and learn enough about your problem.

What if a medicine is proposed?

Find out which pharmacy would prepare or send the medicine.

You can check state records for a pharmacy’s licence through links from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Open the state pharmacy lookup →

An FDA registration means a business has put its details on file with the agency. Registration does not show FDA approval of either the business or the medicines it offers.

As of September 2026, a medicine’s code in the government drug list does not mean it has FDA approval either.

A pharmacy licence does not give permission to use BPC-157 as an ingredient in medicines made to order.
